Alan Krivanek, Ph.D.

Tomato Breeder

Fresh Market Tomato Breeder

Experience: 11 years

Alan Krivanek has been a tomato breeder with Monsanto since 2012. He focuses on breeding fresh market tomato hybrids for the Americas, that meet both grower and consumer needs. For Alan, understanding the genetics aspect of breeding is just as exciting as the exceptional products he’s developing. Before working on tomatoes, he was a Corn Line Development breeder. Alan also served as a Peace Corps volunteer, which helped him realize the huge impact that knowledge could have on small farmers. Alan holds a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of California – Davis, and a B.S. in biology from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. “What drives me as a plant breeder? The potential of developing a variety that can be grown widely and actually have a positive impact in growers’ lives.”
